Tent camping in a hammock is rapidly becoming a mainstay of camping. They are a favorite of ultra light backpackers not only reduces the weight of ground cloths, camping pads, tent stakes, and tent poles on hikes that are long while they take up very little space in a backpack, which will permit additional room for other important items.Tent camping in hammocks has been around for years, but it has been receiving a lot of attention recently for many reasons. Most tents are made from waterproof material that is lightweight and high quality and there has been features added such as nylon webbing to protect trees, rain fly’s, gear pockets, and insect netting. There are even some new models that have been made in order to adjust the center of balance to provide a more stable environment and easy access entry points. Even in the harshest of environments, tent camping in a hammock permits the camper to get a good night’s sleep. Wet ground, tree roots, cactus or rocks don’t create any problems when tent camping in a hammock. In addition, other pests and those annoying won’t be able to find a way in. You can catch a gentle breeze and lie back and enjoy the stars if you leave the rain fly off on a clear night. It is easy to set up and take down your camp site when you are tent camping in a hammock. In fact, it is so easy that hikers can use them as a camp chair for lunches and rest breaks. Also, they will provide a dry place that is comfortable while it is storming which will frequently keep the occupants drier than the traditional ground tent. The only possible disadvantage to tent camping in a hammock is that it’s dependent on trees for support. However, especially clever campers have found that they can tye off to a fence post or anchor to a rock face. As a result of the lack of insulation, cold weather can pose somewhat of a problem but this can be fixed an inflatable mattress or a foam pad along with a sleeping bag that is warm. In order to prevent backaches and provide additional stability, some hammock tents might have the campers needing to sleep diagonally, although with the addition of an inflatable mattress or foam pad the effects of this problem are reduced. This problem is alleviated in some of the new models that are designed such that the hammock has a center of balance that is adjusted. Although there are double occupancy models available, hammock tents usually are suited the best for single occupancy. There are various weight limitations of the different models that are available, but nearly any camping situation can be accommodated.
